Remove password from your PDF (requires password if locked). Fully client-side for privacy.
Use this fast, private, in-browser PDF unlocker to remove password protection from your documents. Your files never leave your device, ensuring maximum privacy and compliance for tier 1 and tier 2 regions.
All processing is done locally in your browser. This helps satisfy stringent data residency and privacy expectations common in the US, EU/EEA, UK, CA, AU, and other tier 1/2 markets.
No. Unlocking is performed entirely in your browser. No file data is uploaded.
Yes. If the PDF is password-protected, you must provide the correct password to open it.
No. The resulting PDF is rebuilt without password protection so you can open it freely.
Pages are re-rendered as high-quality images to preserve appearance. Text is not reflowed.
For the best performance in-browser, we recommend PDFs up to ~200 pages, depending on device memory.
This tool attempts to open your PDF using a password (if required) with a PDF rendering engine, then re-renders each page into a new PDF that no longer requires a password. The output preserves the visual fidelity of your document while removing the open-password gate.
By capturing each page as an image and embedding it in a new PDF, we avoid complications with encrypted structures, embedded permissions, and partial object streams. This approach is fast, reliable across browsers, and keeps processing private on your device.
Rasterization produces large files for graphics-heavy pages. If file size is critical, compress the resulting PDF or choose lower image quality (feature coming soon). For documents with lots of text, consider applying OCR after unlocking for searchable output.
Only unlock PDFs you are authorized to modify. For regulated content (PII, PHI, or confidential IP), follow your organization’s internal policies for distribution and retention.
Q: Will links remain clickable? A: Rendering as images removes embedded links. Consider re-adding hyperlinks if needed.
Q: Can I preserve text as selectable text? A: This approach prioritizes reliability—text becomes image content. Apply OCR to restore searchability.
Q: Does this change page count? A: No. The unlocked PDF keeps the same number of pages unless you remove or reorder them elsewhere.
Q: Can I batch unlock multiple PDFs? A: Use the API or a desktop workflow to loop over files; ensure device resources are sufficient.
Q: Are bookmarks or tags preserved? A: No. Since pages are rasterized, structural metadata is not retained.
